Tesla App FULL WALKTHROUGH (March 2020)

Watch the updated version for v4 of the app (2022) here: https://youtu.be/e-TxvDqtZS4

One thing that makes Tesla special is their mobile app integration. Both the Model S & X ship with physical key fobs to control the car, but with the introduction of the Model 3 they actually no longer include that with the car, which means your phone acts as a key and can remotely control parts of the car. And that’s different than most cars, so let’s walk through some of the features of the Tesla App.

When you first open the app, you are greeted with a live 3D image of your car, so if your door is open, it will show your door as open. If your trunk is open, it’ll show your trunk open. If your lights are on, it’ll show your lights on.

Above that is the name of your car, as well as either the current range or battery percentage, depending on your preference.

Below the car are a few shortcut buttons but I’ll get to those in a second.

The whole bottom section is a list of options related to your car.

First is the phone key, which shows you whether or not you are connected via bluetooth to your car.

Next is the climate screen, where you can see the current interior temperature of the car, as well as set the temperature of the car. I’ve used this basically every day this winter since living in Ohio. A bonus here is that you can even set your seats to heat as well. So when you get out to your car on a cold morning, it is all warmed up and ready to go.

Below the climate there is the Controls Screen, which has all kinds of cool functions to remotely control the car.

Vent: opens the windows slightly to vent outside air
Unlock: Unlocks the car
Flash: Does a 1 second flash of the lights
Honk: Does a 1 second honk of the horn, great for scaring people walking by your car
Start: Remotely wakes up the car, but it will automatically shut off if you don’t start driving in 2 minutes.

Front: Opens the frunk
Trunk: Opens the Trunk

Valet mode: Enables Valet mode, which limits some features of the car so your information is safe. I haven’t done a video on this, but if you’re curious about it leave a comment down below and I’ll start working on one.
Sentry Mode: Enables sentry mode, that will automatically turn on the cameras and monitor the car if it senses motion. If you want to see more on that I’ll have my video on that linked below.

Speed limit mode: Limits the speed of the vehicle to whatever you set it to. So if you’re letting a friend drive the car and don’t want them to get out of control, you can limit their speed.
