How will I know if my landlord wants to evict me?
If your landlord wants to evict you, you may get a Kapa Notice or a Pretermination Notice or a Notice to Quit. A Notice to Quit is a legal document that asks you to leave by a certain date. You do not have to leave on that date, but if you do not, the landlord can start an eviction case in court. If your landlord thinks that you did something that violates your lease, they must first give you a warning letter before serving a Notice to Quit. This warning letter is sometimes called a pretermination notice or Kapa Notice. If you get any of these notices, try talking to your landlord about the problem. Try to fix the problem if you can. If this is possible, make sure you get written proof.
