Pokémon TCG Pocket - Wind in the Billows (ver. 4.4.2) (non-ex)

There is an event going on in which you can get Mega Pidgeot ex, which made me curious: what can I do with it? Well, here is what I came up with. Not very good against the AI deck that features it, but I brought it online and here is…how it isn’t supposed to perform, but here it is anyway.

POKÉMON (6)
2x Pidgey (Genetic Apex)
2x Pidgeot (Mega Rising)
2x Mega Pidgeot ex (Promo-B)

TRAINERS (14)
2x Copycat
2x Iono
2x Irida
2x Lillie
2x Professor’s Research
2x Rare Candy
2x Will

ENERGY TYPE: Water

Yes, this is a deck that does not use Poké Ball, and that is because much of it is designed to churn through your deck quickly and efficiently, with Professor’s Research, Copycat, and Iono all there to look for more cards—namely Pidgeot in some form and Rare Candy to help evolve it. Irida and Lillie are there to help heal, while Will is to mitigate the coin flip nature of this deck by guaranteeing at least one heads flip. It also has no room for Cyrus, Repel, or Sabrina.

The reason I used both Pidgeot and Mega Pidgeot ex is because while they fulfill similar purposes, this deck has debuted at a time where Oricorio is very popular. As it has total immunity from Pokémon ex, I needed an answer to it, and that answer is the non-ex Pidgeot from Mega Rising. I picked Mega Rising Pidgeot over Genetic Apex Pidgeot, who can also one-hit KO Oricorio for 2 Colorless Energy, due to fitting in with the theme better. Both Pidgeot cards have similar attacks: both have you flip coins to discard Energy from the opponent’s Active Pokémon but fails if it’s all tails. It’s 2 coins for Pidgeot (25% failure rate) and 3 coins for Mega Pidgeot ex (12.5% failure rate). They even have similar attack names: Twister for Pidgeot, Giant Twister for Mega Pidgeot ex. Having 4 Pidgeot in all also makes it more likely for me to find something to evolve Pidgey into via Rare Candy.

The deck exploits the fact that you will always begin with a Basic Pokémon in your opening hand. Pidgey will always show up at the beginning, giving you something to evolve.

While I got lucky with the coin flips here (with Will helping out), I wanted to showcase Mega Pidgeot ex, which failed to show up. Nevertheless, it shows how a deck like this can prevail even with a type disadvantage and the opponent using Oricorio at every opportunity. I intend to show another match, this time with Mega Pidgeot ex as the main attacker and the original intended one for this deck, but as you can see, regular one-point Pidgeot can hold its own.
