This McGwire Home Run Was Too Far to Track

On May 16, 1998, Mark McGwire launched one of the longest home runs of the modern era at Busch Stadium.

The ball struck the press level façade in deep center field—beyond the stadium’s mapped distance grid—forcing an immediate estimate of 545 feet. Later analysis suggests the true distance was closer to 520 feet if allowed to land at field level.

This remains one of the most extreme examples of raw power in baseball history.
