Take Control of your Metadata
(How to get rid of the OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA tag)

OK - so we’re going to talk about four ways to manage your metadata – the written information about your photos including the sometimes-irritating OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA tag that shows up on Facebook Albums and other social media.

First, let’s talk about importing your images and taking control of what is kept-

Lightroom –

1. What we want to do here first is to create a metadata preset where we can add in copyright data etc. and get rid of that tag

First, take care of the basic tag and change the empty field labeled description to your name, company name, etc. (this is the field where by default you’ll see OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Then you can look through the various fields like Copyright etc.

2. If you don’t like that idea or if you want to get rid of all of your metadata like exposure etc. you can use the export dialog box and choose Copyright and Contact Only

3. Photomechanic – This is my favorite tool for ingesting, culling (editing) renaming, tagging sorting and launching into PS. It’s the best, fastest, tool I’ve ever used.

When I ingest here I can apply global IPTC metadata where I have eliminated or can replace the description where you’d find OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

4. iOS – Look for the app Photo Investigator ($2.99) which is an app that has the functionality to eliminate/edit your metadata. If you transfer an image from your camera to the phone and want to post right away this might be the best way to get rid of that tag while you’re on the move.
