Betty's Chocolate-Covered Frozen Grapes
In this video, Betty demonstrates how to make Chocolate-Covered Frozen Grapes. These grapes can be enjoyed before a meal, as an appetizer or palate-cleanser during the meal, or as a light dessert. The Chocolate-Covered Grapes are best served in frozen form.
This summer, I ate my first frozen grape. I loved it immediately, and I formulated a method for creating them at home. I found that they can become somewhat addictive, but since they have much less sugar than pieces of candy of the same size, I felt that I did not need to scrimp on the number I ate for a snack. They are eaten in frozen form, and are quite a hit with my family. We found that you can choose other fruits to serve frozen, such as pineapples, mangoes, strawberries, blueberries, and others. Another interesting way to serve them is to coat them in a complementary icing, such as chocolate, vanilla, caramel, or any icing that coats well and tastes good with the fruit. This video will concentrate on the making of Chocolate-Coated Grapes.
CHOCOLATE-COVERED FROZEN GRAPES
Ingredients:
About 2 cups of red or green grapes, or as desired
About 1 cup chocolate that melts easily (enough to cover the grapes)
Instructions:
First, freeze the grapes you plan to use in this recipe. This is easily done by lining them up on a sheet pan that has been covered with waxed paper or in a 13-inch by 9-inch by 1-inch glass Pyrex dish. After arranging the grapes, freeze them until they feel solid--a few hours. Now, melt the chocolate. You can do this in a double boiler on the stove (as demonstrated) or by using a Pyrex dish in the microwave. Both ways are very quick, and you need to be sure not to overcook the chocolate coating. Test it a few times as it melts. The coating is ready to use when it can be stirred, and it has cooled to room temperature.
Next, use two iced tea spoons to roll a frozen grape back and forth in the melted chocolate. Move quickly to cover the grapes completely, but thinly with the chocolate coating. Get the coated grapes out of the chocolate coating and place them neatly on a serving dish. Put the serving dish (containing Coated Grapes) in the freezer until serving time. Serve while grapes are still frozen. Place any leftovers back in the freezer for later use. Yummy!
