Elvis Presley - Young and Beautiful (Last Live Performance - May 9 1976, Closing Show)

After almost 5 years since the first Lake Tahoe season in July/August 1971 and not doing any season in 1975, Elvis came back again to Lake Tahoe in 1976, but unfortunately for the last time in his career.

Ever since the first time Elvis came to Lake Tahoe in 1971 it was clear that he liked the place, and so every show he made there in those 5 years had something unique to it like for example rare songs, or at least where above the average quality compared to most Las Vegas shows ever since 1971, with some exceptions.

From all the 106 shows Elvis made there, the last show is definitely the most interesting of them all, since not only in a way it's interesting because it's the last one in Lake Tahoe, but specially because it's the longest show Elvis ever made in his career, basically reaching the 2 hours mark.

It's unclear why Elvis decided to do such a longer show at the Lake Tahoe Closing Show, but considering that the same thing happened 7 months after at his last Las Vegas season, again at the closing show, I have a kinda crazy theory that maybe Elvis already expected it to be the last show in Lake Tahoe and in Las Vegas? maybe somehow he already knew, or maybe he was at least planning for this Lake Tahoe season to be his last and the December Las Vegas season to be his last too? and so with this in mind he decided to do something special for the last time in Lake Tahoe and Las Vegas? or maybe he just decided to a longer show at both Lake Tahoe and Las Vegas because he didn't know when was going to be the next time he would go back at these 2 places? or he simply wanted to do a longer show for the closing show, but if this is the case then why not do the same while on tour? why specially at the Lake Tahoe and Las Vegas, the places where he used to do engagements and not for example at any tour closing show?

Although if you think about it the same thing happened at the last show in Memphis in July, he did a longer show (not as long as the other 2 I already mentioned but still longer than usual) so maybe it's just a matter of place? since we know that Las Vegas, Lake Tahoe and Memphis has a special meaning/significance to Elvis live career compared to any other place he did shows while on tour, since Las Vegas and Lake Tahoe are the only places he did seasons of shows and Memphis because it's obviously his hometown, so he just decided to do something special for them? anyway, probably this is the most correct reason to why he did a longer show at the closing show of these places but still the other ideias i presented have some sense to it (kinda 😂). All of this is something interesting to discuss about, so if you want, leave a comment about this matter and what do you think of, and we can discuss it.

Anyway back to the idea of this video, here I decided to upload Elvis last live performance of Young and Beautiful that we know of.

During the 70's Young and Beautiful appeared 5 times (that we know of as for the time this video is being uploaded), 4 times being on stage and 1 time during rehearsal.

My next video will feature (in a more detailed way) all the times the song appeared during the 70's, but here I will focus on the last live version.

During the show after Elvis already had performed other rare songs such as Return to Sender, due to random audience requests Elvis sang a line of Wooden Heart (as it's in the beginning of the video) and most probably someone mentioned Young and Beautiful too, i say most probably since the audio that we have so far of this show is not that great, so it's hard to understand what the audience is saying and sometimes even what Elvis is saying, but anyway, then Elvis sings what is to me the best live version of the song, although the only other time he actually sang the song rather than only doing a excerpt was at August 19, Midnight Show of the cancelled August 1975 Las Vegas season, this one sounds more serious and overall better than the other (although Elvis voice was definitely better during 1975), something that as mentioned before isn't really a surprise since it got clear during the 70's how Elvis loved (or ar least started to love with time) Lake Tahoe.

I hope you liked the video and sorry for the gigantic description, it's just that when I love something I just find myself too captivated to delve into it and with Elvis is no different, but anyway, have a great day and God bless you.
