The SBA 8(a) audit is shaking up government contracting. Here’s the quick, no-fluff breakdown of what’s happening inside the SBA 8(a) Business Development Program:

✅ 1,091 firms were suspended for missing the deadline to submit 3 years of financial documents (about 25% of ~4,300 participants).
✅ 154 Washington, D.C.-area 8(a) firms were placed in termination proceedings after SBA found they exceeded “economic disadvantage” thresholds (net worth limits, adjusted gross income caps, or total asset limits). SBA says those firms received nearly $1.3B in 8(a) contracts FY2021–FY2024 — with nearly $1B coming from sole-source awards.
✅ 628 MORE firms (a subset of the 1,091 suspended) are now in termination proceedings after SBA says they refused to turn over the requested financial records. SBA says these firms received nearly $850M in 8(a) contracts FY2021–FY2024.

Total involved in the two termination waves: 154 + 628 = 782 firms.
And yes — that’s over $2B in 8(a) contract dollars tied to these two groups.
