Easy Cosy Crochet Jumper Sweater + Free Pattern | How to Crochet a Jumper for Beginners

This tutorial is for an easy and cosy jumper sweater, with a free written pattern available on my blog (link below). This is an easy sweater using only double crochets, great for practicing the double crochet stitch. It is a relaxed style with open side seams, a wide neckline and some cuff detailing. There are instructions throughout to alter for your size!

Proportions of jumper in video:
- Initial chain *74 = 45cm = width of each body piece
- Body pieces height = 53cm
- Total arm length = 45 cm
- Chain 24 for start of sleeves - length over shoulders = 14cm

I used organic cotton 8/8 (DK) yarn + 4mm crochet hook

Some thoughts...
The detail of the stitches and the drape of the jumper came out nicely with the cotton. I also soaked it for a bit in fabric conditioner and hung it up to dry which softened it up a bit more. I find cotton can be a bit trickier to work with than acrylic (the threads in this tend of unwind more easily) and you might find it a bit less smooth to work through the hook, but it does have a lovely finish that can make the little struggles worthwhile!
I brought this batch of yarn on sale and I know cotton (especially organic) is not always the most affordable option! Whatever yarn you want to use will work for this jumper, so let me know if you use another fabric. I’d love to know how it turns out 😊
