Alien Wootz Melt February 2016
This shows the ingredients and basic process of creating a 13 pound wootz ingot from a combination of scrap damascus and sorel pig iron. The forging is accomplished using the "donut" technique...and even some heavy editing and fast-forwarding didn't make that portion seem quick!
Parts of the final bars went to Nick Anger, Mace Vitale, Jamie Lundell, and Matthew Parkinson. Peter Swarz-Burt, the smith who does the melt and forging in the video, unfortunately squandered his portion of the bar on a failed project. That failed blade will eventually get recycled into future wootz ingots.
