Overview
A few months ago I went on a hunt to find a knee brace that would alleviate the pain I get from time to time caused by hours of Jiu Jitsu. Normally this pain is directly below my kneecap, and when I kneel it feels like I'm kneeling on a hot nail. I admit it's pretty painful. After trying out a few knee braces I realized that I need a kneepad and that the braces were doing nothing to help. After trying out a few kneepads someone suggested to me that I check out the brand Asics. I jumped on their website and looked around at what they offered and the Snap Down Sleeve caught my eye.
The Fit
One of the things that attracted me to the Asics Snap Down Sleeve was the shape of the gel cushion. It not only covers the knee joint, but also extends down some to cover the tendion right below the kneecap. I'm happy to say that wearing this kneepad everyday to train has made the knee pain go away. The shape of the gel always seems to cover the knee correctly no matter what possition your body might be in. The back side of the Asics Snap Down is made of a comfortable material that does not pinch or cut off blood flow and offers some breathability, but in my opinion it's far from what I would call "mesh".
Pros
Really comfortable to wear
Gel pad is nice and thick
The shape of the gel pad covers and protects the knee well
Stays in place when wearing gi pants
Cons
Could be more breathable
Does not stay in place at all when doing nogi
Conclusion
I would highly recommend this kneepad to anyone who trains in the gi. Even if you don't have the knee pain that I described, I think it's a good idea to protect your body as much as possible. I'm still on the great hunt for a kneepad that stays in place while doing nogi so if anyone has suggestions please contact me via email or facebook.
