The Starstreak is a British man-portable air defense missile. It was a further development of the Starburst with a much higher flight speed and a kinetic energy warhead. The Starstreak was adopted by the British Army in 1997. Sometimes it is referred as the Starstreak High Velocity Missile, or HVM. Originally it was produced by Shorts. Since 2002 the company is known as Thales Air Defense. The Starstreak is a rather unusual weapon compared to other man portable air defense missiles. It uses a different guidance method and warhead than most other MANPAD systems. Currently the Starstreak is the main British MANPADS. It replaced in British service the Javelin, and eventually the Starburst. The Starstreak missiles are also operated by other nations, including Indonesia, Malaysia, South Africa and Thailand. In 2022 Britain delivered a number of missiles to Ukraine in order to defend against the Russian invasion.
