Sophia Project

The European-funded SOPHIA project aims to develop a new generation of collaborative robotic systems to improve workers’ ergonomics as well as the manufacturing flexibility to achieve mass customization. The project is coordinated by IIT-Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia in Italy. SOPHIA involves 12 partners from 6 European members states and has been funded by the European Union with 6.5 million euro for the next four years. The project will have impact on the European productive system by fostering the adoption of wearable (wearbots) and collaborative robots (cobots) in manufacturing industries. Industrial use-cases and engagement of workers are envisaged.
