Hot rising talent Skatman steps up for his Watergate Records debut.
 
The Tunisian-born, Berlin based artist has turned heads with his innovative sonic touch, informed by everything from four-to-the-floor house and techno, to ‘80s synth pop and cinematic scores. His recent album debut on Innervisions, ‘Rewarped’ saw the producer mix up hip-hop samples with his own unique take on dance music, with thrilling results.
 
His maiden outing on the Oberbaumbrücke imprint, ‘Save Me’ keeps the bar raised high. The title track is a gem. Driven by chugging house grooves and imbued with subtle touches of synth pop, its further elevated into timeless territory thanks to a stirring gospel vocal.  Emerging producer Tal Fussman, a favoured artist of Skatman’s and future collaborator, gives ‘Save Me’, a deliciously punchy tribal tech remix. ‘One More Time’ continues in the same ascendent fashion, as melodic chords, crisp drums and another ‘90s tinged vocal make the track pop. The EP rounds out with ‘I Can’t Take It’, which represents a distinct stylistic left turn, as organic broken beats, an off-kilter synth melody line and a robust male vocal combine with absorbing results.
 
Highlights to come for Skatman include a debut on Correspondant and more material on his excellent Cognitive Prophecy imprint.
