The HORRIFIC Executions Of The Gunpowder Plotters

One of the most incredibly yet notorious events to have occurred in British History is the Gunpowder Plot, in which a group of Catholics planned to blow up the Houses of Parliament, killing King James I and his royal family along with most of the government. It was only by chance that Guy Fawkes was found inside the basement of the House of Lords along with dozens of barrels of highly explosive gunpowder. After his arrest, Fawkes was tortured and then confessed everything.

There were 13 men in total who were complicit in the Gunpowder Plot and the plan to kill the King. After Fawkes' arrest they ran but many days later were caught up in a shootout which took place at Holbeche House and with this two of the leaders Robert Catesby and Thomas Percy were killed. The rest who were captured along with others who were rounded up were placed on trial and were sentenced to death by being hanged, drawn and quartered. These barbaric executions were carried out on two consecutive days in London and the crowds lined the streets to see the men suffer who planned to bring down the monarchy and government.

In the first set of deaths, four conspirators were brutally executed inside the churchyard of St Paul's Cathedral. The following day another four including Guy Fawkes were executed at Old Palace Yard, in front of the building they planned to blow up. These executions were barbaric, but the killing did not stop there. Thomas Percy and Catesby were posthumously executed, and other people such as Jesuit Priest Henry Garnet were implicated in the plan and killed.
