2023 Lotus Eletre Hyper SUV - First Look, Details & Specs !
All the details, specs and a first look at the all-new Hyper SUV from Lotus - the 2023 Eletre.
This is the all-new all-electric SUV... sorry, no, 'Hyper SUV' from Lotus.
This is a big deal. It's the first time Lotus has made a family car, a lifestyle car, it's the biggest thing they've made, it's their first SUV and it just has to be not only the most practical, refined and comfortable car Lotus has ever offered, but pretty much has to redefine the electric SUV segment in order to succeed.
Oh and Eletre the world's first 'pure electric Hyper SUV'
The company says it's got the soul of a Lotus with the usability of an SUV. Lotus MD, Matt Windle, says - this is 'a momentous point in our history'.
Continuing with tradition of naming their cars beginning with the letter E - this is the Eletre - which means 'coming to life' in some Eastern European languages.
This car is actually the first of three new Lotus lifestyle EVs coming in the next four years, and the design is inspired by its Evija electric hypercar.
Lotus says this car is 'born British, raised globally' it's designed in the UK, but which will be manufactured in China. It extensively uses carbon fibre and aluminium and inside there is highly durable man-made textiles, and sustainable lightweight wool blends.
The exterior design is striking and sharp edged, certainly utterly modern and is said to be have been 'carved by air'. You can certainly see the Evija resemblance in the rear design.
Inside it's very futuristic with a big central screen. It appears to be a four-seater, but I'm sure there must be other configurations too. The standard stereo is from KEF - a 15-speaker 1380 Watt sound system - although you can also have almost double that with a 23-speaker 2160 W optional system.
The four-wheel drive will have a 100kWh battery and even in base form will put out 600bhp. Use a 350kW superfast charger and you get 248 miles or 400km of range with just a 20 minute charge. It's fully charged maximum charging range is 373 miles or 600km.
Eletre will be capable of accelerating from rest to 62mph in under three-seconds. Top speed will be 161mph or 260kph.
In addition to advanced active aerodynamics, other world firsts include deployable LIDAR - light detection and ranging - system for future autonomous drive technologies.
Apparently there is a dynamic walk-up sequence for a moment of theatre each time the driver approaches the car.
The Eletre built on a modular versatile electric premium architecture, which is likely to underpin the other forthcoming EV models from Lotus.
They are currently taking orders, production starts later this year, and first deliveries will be in 2023 initially in the UK, Europe and China.
