Rule 34: The Direct Object Accusative
Latin, unlike English, uses the endings of nouns to identify the role that a noun is playing in the sentence. The direct object - the noun receiving the action of the verb - is put into the accusative case. This is one of the most basic and important rules in all of Latin, especially for English speakers who don't normally have to worry about cases of nouns.
