Ray Franz on "not forsaking our meeting" --- WHERE? JW gatherings & biblical APOSTASY (Freedom 340)

Biblical scholars BF Westcott and Marcus Dods help us determine just what meetings were being talked about in that famous text heard constantly in the Kingdom Halls of Jehovah's Witnesses, "... not forsaking our meeting together, as some have the custom ..." (Hebrews 10:25). The gatherings or assemblies which the Hebrew Christians were forsaking were the meetings in the name of JESUS the Christ [Messiah} -- NOT the Jewish assemblies (that is, Temple and synagogue). Those Jewish gatherings were "in the name of Yahweh/Jehovah" -- even if the Tetragram was never publicly uttered. But those Jewish gatherings were NEVER in the name of Jesus. The name of the Nazarene is seldom if ever uttered by orthodox Jews. Yet in the New Testament it is clear that Jewish Christians as well as Gentile met together in the name of Jesus Messiah and Lord (1 Corinthians 5:4; Matthew 18:20). Hebrew Christians who ceased to gather with fellow Jewish Christians were not just "missing meetings" -- they were abandoning the faith, apostatizing from Jesus the Messiah.
