We saw that people were struggling to get the huge wood burning firebox lit so I put together a video to show you how we do it. I've added this to the blog page.

Check the age of your model as some of the controls may have changed slightly. Our on off oven control is pull and twist to divert the heat of the fire box around the oven.

At the top of the oven you can control the air washing across the glass door. This keeps the glass clear of soot. The bottom control lets more air in to the stove for a faster burn but this increases the heat going straight up the chimney. One your fire is lit and burning steadily you can adjust the air flow to ensure more heat in the stove and less going up he chimney.

Worth mentioning that the stove takes 45 mins to an hour to start heating the room. It takes a while for a lump of cast iron and steel to warm up. There is no other heating in our house during Autumn. In the depth of winter we switch on the storage heaters to boost the heat first thing in the morning. We also have heated towel rails in the bathrooms.

The temperature guage on the stove indicates the oven temperature NOT THE FIRE TEMP which is not exact as it depends on the type of wood you are burning and the efficiency of the chimney. You can easily reach 250 degrees plus. (We have a magnetic thermometer to check the heat when we first installed the stove). We use the guage on the stove to estimate how warm the fire is and how efficiently the fire is heating our home. We run the fire switched off to the oven area unless we are cooking. The guage for the oven still reads at the moderate to hot temp most of the time.

One thing to be aware of with any fire the straighter the chimney is the better the draw will be and the easier it will be to light your fire. We have an insulated chimney liner which also helps.
