Do Emotions Really Live in the Hips?

Do we really hold emotions in our hips? When I started practicing yoga, we were all told that the hips could be a "junk drawer" for our emotions. We were often warned that anger and sadness might emerge when we stretch our hips. Over the years I moved away from that--it seemed a bit too "out there"--and I took it out of my teaching. I've changed my mind again: I've come back around to thinking that we might carry emotions in our hips. The psoas in particular can become especially tight when we are feeling anxious. In today's class, we will be working to loosen and soften the psoas and calm the sympathetic (fight or flight) response.

Accessibility: We will be on our hands and knees and on the back.
Props: A blanket is recommended. I use a bolster and two blocks in my final pose, but a chair, couch or bed could also work.
