CIA in Latin America: How Chile Lost Its Democracy 1973

In 1970 Chile elected Salvador Allende as their President. His plans to nationalize some sectors of the economy were not approved by the US. The American government sent in the CIA to bring down the economy of Chile. It all culminated in the 1973 military coup in which General Pinochet took power by force with CIA support and ruled the country violently for nearly 20 years.
