Operaton Forgotten Angels - June 6th, 2013

Animal Rescue Corps (ARC) removed 18 dogs from hazardous conditions at a home about an hour east of Nashville in Smith County. The owner had been unable to properly care for the dogs, who were unsterilized and breeding, for several years. When severe illness necessitated the Memorial Day hospitalization of the owner, a relative called New Leash on Life, an animal shelter in Lebanon, on May 29 for help. Upon visiting the property, in this county with no animal services, New Leash on Life recognized the need for assistance in this case of neglect and called on partner Animal Rescue Corps.

ARC found medium to large mixed breed dogs in feces-laden trailers with dangerously high ammonia levels. Several dogs were also chained or in pens outside or loose on the property surrounded by trash and bones from deceased dogs with no protection from the elements. Many of the dogs were underweight and all were infested with fleas and ticks.

All of the dogs were surrendered to ARC and transported to a temporary shelter in Lebanon. Their daily care and medical needs will be met by ARC until they can be assessed for placement and transported to rescue and shelter partners who will find them adoptive homes. Animal Rescue Corps performed this rescue in conjunction with: New Leash on Life; Pet Pardons; Agape Animal Rescue; and Mars Petcare.
