How to prime a Duramax after running out of fuel?

Priming a Duramax after running out of fuel typically involves refilling the fuel tank with at least 3-5 gallons of diesel. Next, locate the fuel filter housing, usually under the hood. Open the bleeder screw on top of the filter housing. Then, manually pump the fuel priming pump, a button or lever on top of the filter housing, until fuel flows steadily from the bleeder screw, free of air bubbles. Tighten the bleeder screw. Attempt to start the engine, cranking in short bursts to avoid overheating the starter. If the engine doesn't start immediately, repeat the priming process. It may take several attempts to fully prime the system and purge all air. Once the engine starts, let it idle for a few minutes to ensure a smooth fuel flow.
