Trump suggests state-led disaster management, hints at FEMA overhaul or elimination

President Donald Trump shared his vision to possibly get rid of the Federal Emergency Management Agency as he criticized their efforts in helping North Carolina rebuild after the storm damage that hit the Southeast.

Trump is in Asheville, North Carolina to assess the damage from Hurricane Helene, which occurred in September 2024.

People in Swannanoa voiced their concerns to Trump during his visit to the community in the western part of the state saying, "They did what they could do, but it's not enough" in terms of what FEMA provided.

The homeowner who had property in Asheville told Trump he is now living in a camper after this home was destroyed.

The man believes Asheville was "forgotten."
