BABY PRODUCTS I REGRET BUYING | OWLET, MEDELA, DIAPER GENIE & MORE
Baby products I regret buying and most of them were expensive baby products you don't need. As a new mom, I really believed that I would like this products, you'd be surprised!
I know a lot of the products that I mention are cult favourites amongst parents and they do work for some, but that's the lesson with babies, no two babies are the exact same. So don't waste money on this and that. Stick to the basics and purchase things as you need them and be sure they fit your child, your child likes them and that way you're not spending thousands on products your baby hates or you hate or don't use. For myself, some of these products were fails. They just didn't come anywhere close to my expectation of them. As a first time mom, there's a lot of information out there, but don't let these hyped products fool you. Just because an item is expensive, that doesn't make it good.
I purchased a lot of these early on and so by the time I would have liked to return them, the time to return them had already expired and so I was stuck with tons of products that I didn't use or like. I hope that my list helps you avoid my mistake as a first time mom in buying things too early and buying into hyped up items that served me no purpose or made life more difficult.
The Owlet in particular was a product that I had such high expectations for and it just didn't work. What baby doesn't wiggle? And who doesn't want to see their baby? They have a camera now, but if you purchase the sock at $499 retail and the camera for an additional $250, that's a lot of money spent on something that really doesn't meet that value. There are much better options out there that are non contact and cost less than a fraction of that.
The other one was the Medela. Breastfeeding is such a draining experience. It involves a lot of self sacrifice. There are times where your baby is sleeping and you have to wake up to pump, especially as an exclusive pumping mom. That's no walk in the park, if you know you know. You also may not know that you could end up in a position of exclusive pumping. I know many of us dream of that magical exclusively breastfed experience. My son didn't receive formula, he was exclusively on my pumped milk, but it was a mission! Because I went through that, I went through a slew of pumps trying to get the maximum output and the Medela sucked, hard! It was painful, even with the flanges adjusted. It was the actual suction type that I did not like about it.
