How money DEMOTIVATES us!

Money is fine for simple, routine work, but for creative or intellectual work, it can actually demotivate you. This is because we intrinsically want to grow and learn, and when you pay someone to do intellectual work where they're growing, you're taking away their autonomy.

This video is based on the book "Drive" by Daniel Pink.

Dan Pink argues that routine work was more common in the 20th century, and now in the 21st century it's creative work that's more common, in an increasingly complex world. Instead of money, he says autonomy, mastery, and purpose are what promote intrinsic motivation. Autonomy is "the desire to direct our own lives," mastery is "the urge to make progress and get better at something that matters," and purpose is "the yearning to do what we do in the service of something larger than ourselves."
