THIS is the NEW 2018 Mercedes-AMG C63 S! | FIRST DRIVE
This is the new, upgraded Mercedes-AMG C63 S and everything you could possibly want to know about it! From taking a look at all the body styles including Saloon, Estate, Cabriolet and Coupe, to a full in-depth walkaround to run over the changes. Then it's off for a road drive with the top down before returning to the race track to push it through its paces. With a new spark in its life, the C63 S is something to be reckoned with!
Venturing to the Bilster Berg resort in Germany, we're greeted by a line-up with all the different variations and configurations of the new C63 S. Having previously driven the pre-facelift version of the Saloon (also known as Limousine or Sedan), and with a later plan to drive the Coupe on track, I chose to give the Cabrio a good run out. The first thing is to take a proper look around and explain the things that are new on the facelift: the gearbox becoming the AMG 9G automatic, visual changes including the Panamericana front grille, wheels, and rear diffuser, interior features such as the digital cockpit dashboard and touch control steering wheel, as well as the reworkings to elements such as the AMG Ride Control and AMG Dynamics software.
Still powered by the 4.0l Biturbo V8 making 510hp, the C63 S has plenty of oomph, and a very appropriate soundtrack to go along with it. My choice of the Cabrio for the road drive very much fitting the weather and feel of the car. Upon departure from the circuit it quickly becomes apparent how the model comes to life as I can talk you through the driving modes and the roof mechanism on the convertible.
After returning back to the track, next up a few laps in the C63 S Coupe, chasing the AMG GT R driven by Maro Engel. Here it could be truly pushed but without disengaging the traction control at all, it was noticeably keen to interfere - this more demonstrates how entertaining the C63 S will be with its full rear wheel drive on other occasions
Lastly it's back to the paddock to have a more detailed run through of the interior in an Estate model, to demonstrate the various features and controls including the 9-stage TC settings.
