Engaging Reluctant Participants in SUD Group Counseling: “Gimmicks for Group”

Description
Some clients arrive at your door in a precontemplative stage of readiness to change; others experience setbacks and find themselves having returned to an earlier stage or are just beginning to experience ambivalence. Either way, clinicians need strategies for engaging with patients who are precontemplative or contemplative to avoid feeling burnt out, pessimistic, or combative. In this “virtual office hours,” you’ll be able to submit specific cases with which you’d like help. An experienced clinician will talk through some of your stickiest issues and offer concrete ideas designed to enhance motivation and nurture a positive relationship with your client.
