The loop for flex band and electronics(Allison Loggins-Hull) Lincoln Wind Ensemble 1 from Stockton CA at CASMEC 2022
Saturday February 19 2022 at William Saroyan Theater Fresno , California All State Music Education Conference inviting and featuring only 2 of the best High School Bands of California. This Wind Ensemble is the top musicians of Lincoln High Stockton and is conducted by Directors Cathy Ettle, Kristin Florek and Jazareth Valencia.
Cathy Ettle, Director
the loop is inspired by Chicago and it’s promise to African- Americans who came by to the city during the great migration. It opens with a train sound, representing the trains the migrants took up to the city from places like Mississippi and other southern states. It also nods to Chicago’s L- train, which sounds throughout the city and circles a downtown area approximately referred to as “the loop” The piece is comprised of musical loops and also embodies the repetitive and rhythmic nature of factory labor, which the majority of black southerners found themselves engaged in once they made it to the big city. The piece has a driving and determined energy, much like the spirit that is needed when anyone migrates to a new home for a better life. For fun, house beats are added and the opening horns motifs are inspired by Chicago native Kanye West “All of the Lights”. The Lincoln Heights School Wind Ensemble was part of a consortium of ensembles that commissioned this piece led by doctor Caitlin Bove, Director of Instrumental ensembles at Pierce college
