Russian Destroyer Saves US Sub | Hunter Killer (2018)

Hunter Killer is a mix of Hunt for Red October meets Battleship meets Lone Survivor. The writers, director, and producers did a great job of intertwining the stories into one coherent narrative. There are whole sections of the movie completely underwater, centered around battle tactics and sub warfare. Then we go topside for a special ops mission to free the Russian President from a military coup. Then a Russian destroyer aids the US Sub and takes out the rogue defense minister with surface to surface missiles. All of my favorite military action genres in a single film!

There is a lot going on before and after this clip that kinda lets you know how all of this fits together. The Russian captain and the Russian president are on board the American sub. The Americans saved the sub captain from the bottom of the ocean, and a special ops team picked up the Russian President and rushed him out of Polyarny under fire. The Russian defense minister has gone rogue and is commanding the military. The Russian destroyer that the U.S. sub is facing won't fire because the Russian captain on the USS Arkansas broadcast that he is on the sub and that they should stand down, even naming the soldiers one at a time to verify his identify. The rogue minister fires surface to surface missile to take out the sub, even know that the Russian captain and president are on board. At the last moment the Russian destroyer comes to their defense and then counter acts the minister utterly destroying the Polyarny installation.
