Moving to Canada and the pros or cons of Living in Mississauga!
Are you thinking of moving to Canada? Are you considering Mississauga as a place to live? I've lived here almost ten years and have listed some of the general pros and cons of relocating to the GTA or Mississauga in general.
If you are raising a family and want a safe, relatively crime free environment AND you can tolerate long, cold winters with a joyful splash of four summer-ish months. Then maybe Mississauga is a good place to relocate but here are some hopefully helpful stats:
On the median household income as of February 2020 ($83k) you will spend 50% on rent, 20% on food and restaurants, 20% on utilities, gas, car payments and car insurance (which, by the way, is crazy expensive - around $2,500 a year when you first arrive and only dropping to $1,500 at best after 9 years) and perhaps have 10% left over for everything else. Unless you have saved $50-60k then you will most likely be renting and unable to get on the property ladder.
Mobile (Cell) phone monthly costs start around $45 and data is sometimes extremely expensive. Nothing gets rolled over each month and the big three communication companies (Bell, Rogers & Telus) gouge you as much as they can.
15% tips are the expected minimum which you should pay for any sit-down meal and although restaurant prices are lower than much of Europe these prices have been escalating very quickly over past few years.
The cost of living is increasing and I mention the $14 minimum wage for a reason. Debate it until your hearts content in the comments!
If you would like me to dive more into any of the pro's and con's or the more detailed cost of how affordable it is to live here then just let me know and I will make a follow up video.
