The Structure of Wood and Ring Anomalies

So we know that dendrochronologists study tree rings, but how do these form? Do they form in precisely the same way all the time? They don't, which provides enormous challenges for any researcher. In order to properly construct a chronology, we have to know about ring anomalies like absent rings, false rings, micro rings, and pinching rings. We have to know the difference between earlywood and latewood. We have to know about reaction wood, like compression wood and tension wood. There's a lot to discuss, so let's get into it!
