The Finance YouTuber Cartel
There has been a lot of stuff going on in the world of finance YouTubers that I really wanted to share.
A few days ago I posted a video talking about some ways in which some people may be misleading their audience when talking about their portfolio updates.
And about a day after putting that video out there I got a number of different finance YouTubers, some of them pretty well known, tell me that I have done wrong.
This is because there is a group which includes a number of UK personal finance youtubers although not all of them.
Within this group there is a small number of people who seem to take offence at people pointing out that doing shady things or things that might be illegal (I don't know! Not a lawyer!) is wrong.
Some of these same people also have issues with declaring when they are being paid to talk about companies or declaring sponsorships. Because videos with sponsors don't get watched as much and people hit dislike on them.
And because I do it on my videos, I cast a shade on the community which is a big no no.
Anyway - I felt I needed to share this so that people know that not everything might be as rosy as it seems and just to be on the lookout when you're taking advice from people.
I'm no longer in that group after the exchanges over the last few days so I have no idea what's going on behind those closed doors. Let's hope that the small number of people who this applies to improve their stance.
