Camino de Santiago | Cold November Rains

This is late November 2022 on the Portuguese route starting in Porto. It was nice to have such a quiet trail during the off-season. And I really liked the scenery (after 2-3 less interesting days from Porto). However, the albergues (pilgrim hostels) that were still open were cold and the weather here is so humid that not even my light weight quick-dry clothing would dry out overnight (socks were the worst).

At this time, post-Covid respiratory infections/viruses were common, especially in hostels. I was sick before this on the Fisherman's Trail, and then on the Camino I was quite sick when I crossed the border into Spain. Half the people in my hostels had non-stop coughs, as did I. Unfortunately, in Spain you can't get cough and cold medication in pharmacies (not even just a simple decongestant and cough suppressant) without seeing a doctor first. They'll only sell you totally ineffective herbal remedies. Lesson: bring all the medicine you may need, and many pairs of socks. And it turned out to be a great idea to bring my sleeping bag (a simple -1 Celsius bag) and rain pants in addition to the mandatory rain jacket.
