LIVE: The second impeachment trial of former President Donald J. Trump | DAY ONE

The Senate is opening its second impeachment trial for former President Donald Trump today — this time with Trump an ex-president residing at his estate in Florida, not the White House.

The trial centers on whether Trump incited a mob that attacked the Capitol on Jan. 6, forcing the evacuation of lawmakers who at the time were certifying President Biden's Electoral College win over Trump.

Five people died in connection to the riot, including a Capitol Hill police officer. The crowd was seeking to stop the Electoral College count after weeks in which Trump and his allies had argued massive fraud contributed to his loss — without providing any evidence that supported those arguments in court.
