The Great Australian Bight: A Call for World Heritage Protection

For over 20 years, Peter Owen has advocated for the protection of important parts of the Great Southern Reef including the Great Australian Bight and isolated islands off South Australia’s coast.

As the director of The Wilderness Society South Australia, Owen continues to advocate for marine conservation.  Now he is working with the Mirning Elders, calling on community to stand again to continue the momentum for protecting the Bight through World Heritage listing.

The proposed World Heritage estate includes a vast area of central Great Southern Reef and is supremely significant in meeting 7 of 10 World Heritage criteria, the most of any estate globally.
