DIY Cardboard Soap Mold – Cheap Fast & Easy!

In this video, I show you how to make your own soap mold using a recycled cardboard box!

It’s easier than building a mold out of wood, cheaper than buying a wood or silicone mold online, and much faster than both.

This is the best option for an affordable soap mold, especially if you need a soap mold right away for a special project. You might not even have to buy anything if you already have the supplies on hand!

SUPPLIES LIST:

• Sturdy cardboard box (mine is 9.5" x 9.5")
• Extra pieces of cardboard
• Box knife
• Tape
• Ruler - https://amzn.to/2ZPt3Lo 💗
• Freezer paper (I use the 18" wide, but the 15" wide is cheaper)
15" Freezer Paper - https://amzn.to/36hWt76 💗
• Cutting mat
(Mine's a quilting one, but you can use a cutting board to save $)
• Scissors (helpful)

For your box, you can use any sturdy box that has the dimensions you are looking for. You can use boxes from your local grocery store or even used shipping boxes from an online order.

I also show you how to line your soap mold using freezer paper so it won’t leak. If you don’t want to use freezer paper, a clean trash can liner will work.

If you don't want the hassle of trying make and line your own soap mold, here's an inexpensive silicone mold. I have a couple of these that I use for my goat milk soap and I LOVE them! One of these molds will give you 10, 1-inch bars.

How to calculate the amount of soap your mold will hold:

1) Find out how many cubic inches your mold is by multiplying the length x width x how high your soap will be in the mold.

2) Multiply your cubic inches by .554113 and that will give you the fluid ounces to adjust your recipe to. (Just make sure to double check it for the correct amount of lye before you start making soap!)

Example:
My mold is 9.5” x 9.5” and I want my soap to be 2” tall. (9.5 x 9.5 x 2 = 180.05 square inches)(Take 180.05 x .554113 = 100.02 fluid ounces) The total volume of your recipe would be 100.02 fluid ounces.
