Finland's Leopard 2R Aid To Ukraine: Too Fragile

There are only 6 Leopard 2R Heavy Mine Breaching Vehicles in the world, and all were given to Ukraine by Finland in early 2023, helping to repel the Russian invasion. According to the report, the engineer battalions of the 33rd Mechanized and 47th Assault Brigades, the lead formations in Ukraine’s 2023 counteroffensive, suffered heavy equipment losses in their assault just south of Mala Tokmachka last week. Of these, 3 Leopard 2Rs were destroyed.

The Leopard 2R was originally a 69-ton Leopard 2A4 tank and powered by a diesel engine, which was converted into a dedicated Heavy Mine Breaching Vehicle by the Finnish company Patria.
