HMV Mahogany Monarch 1909 Gramophone Masculine Women and Feminine Men by Frank Harris/Irving Kaufman

Here we have a classic 1920s song with brilliant lyrics, Masculine Women and Feminine men sung by Irving Kaufman under the pseudonym of Frank Harris. He was a prolific recording artist in the 1920s and recorded under many names.

This is the original American pressing and is quite scarce in the UK. This recording dates from January 1926 and for an acoustic recording I think it sounds really good.

This differs from the Savoy Orpheans Version as it features the complete lyrics – I suspect The Savoy Orpheans didn’t think they could get away with the whole lot at the time so this particular version I think is particularly good. I love the bit where he refers to the Prince of Wales - the future Edward VIII wearing ladies dresses (kilts)! I suspect also this is probably the first recording of this song.

Playing on my gorgeous HMV Mahogany Monarch Spear-tip Gramophone dating from 1909, more details about this machine are on my other clips.
