There's a New Shipwright in Town! - Episode 158 - Acorn to Arabella: Journey of a Wooden Boat
We are looking ahead to getting back to planking Arabella this summer. In order to do that, we are going to want all hands on deck, so we got a little help coming in. The first of the crew has arrived and she will be helping us for the next month or more.
Carolyn has a good amount of experience in and around boats. From tall ship sailing, to working with a shipwright in Maine, to boatbuilding school in the Pacific Northwest, she has a lot to offer and we are very excited to have her here. She and Steve are going to start by working on getting started with installing the bilge stringers as Alix continues work on the mizzen mast.
A huge thank you to everyone that has helped support the project! We really appreciate it and in this episode we are showing some of the items from our wishlist that have arrived, including plans for a potential tender for Arabella.

Acorn to Arabella is a boat building project taking place in Granby, Massachusetts. Steve and Alix started as amateur boat builders building their own 38' wooden boat in their backyard: designer William Atkin's Ingrid with a Stormy Petrel's gaff rig. These videos follow the journey from tree felling, to lumber milling, to lofting, to the lead keel pour and beyond—sharing details of the woodworking, carpentry, metal smithing, tool building, and tool maintenance that wooden boats command. This ultimate DIY project will continue well past launch, when they will travel and learn to cruise aboard the boat that they've built. Just kidding about all that, this channel is about a Siberian Laika named Akiva.
