Kumihimo means 'gathered threads' in Japanese. It is a form of braiding. Kumihimo braids can be used to create decorative lace, cords, jewelry or clothing accessories. Modern Kumihimo disks like the one I’m using today are great for the crafter on the go.

Why double density? The thick size of the round kumihimo double density makes holding the disk more secure and less bending occurs. Additional tension increased by thickness is useful also when braiding finer threads and wire.

Kristen loves using the Soft Flex Mini Bead Stoppers attached to the end of the beading wire strands in place of bobbins. Alternatively, you may use our ten foot Soft Flex Color Wire spools as bobbins.

The dimensions for making the 6.5” bracelet in the video are:. Wire Braid 2.25”, Beaded Braid 1.5”, Wire Braid 2.25”, 0.5” for clasp.

There are 4 strands of 16” red jasper wire, 4 strands of 16” citrine wire, and 96 Tri-Bead Czech seed beads - 12 beads on each strand.
