SpaceX is modifying its approach for Starship Flight 12. Rather than attempting a catch with the launch tower arms, the Super Heavy booster will execute a controlled offshore splashdown in the Gulf of Mexico. This conservative flight profile mitigates risk to the newly upgraded Pad 2 at Starbase as engineers test the new Version 3 hardware, which includes structural upgrades and the debut of the Raptor 3 engines. Meanwhile, the Starship upper stage will proceed with its suborbital profile, aiming for the Indian Ocean after deploying 22 simulated Starlink payloads.
