Kitengela Hot Glass

Kitengela Hot Glass recycles and transforms scrap material into objects & designs that have a future, address a need and fulfil a function or desire.
Recycling scrap glass, melting & annealing (gradual cooling) using old engine oil as a fuel and packaging with used newspaper & second hand boxes all contribute to the cause.

Anselm despises waste, and has been known to frustrate his wife (who says he has 'hoarder disorder') by wearing clothes till they are ragged. This ethos translates into the company and there are endless reuses on many levels throughout the studios.

Even finished glass objects can be repurposed to a different function - a vase may become a candleshield or a lamp base, for example.

Having a good working relationship with the environment is critical to the Kitengela Hot Glass ethos. They regard nature as a treasure, and are of the opinion that the inspirational & nurturing environment contributes to the product wellbeing.
Welcome to Kitengela – a magical place in the bush

Kitengela Glass, a long time neighbour to Nairobi National Park, is a hidden gem. Prior to entering, be prepared for the myriad of sculptures, glass art, and variety of animals along the rough and wildly entertaining road to “Nani’s” Kitengela Glass.

Upon arrival, feel the magic of Kitengela by following the secret mosaic pathways leading to niches of busy artisans transforming recycled glass, scrap metal, and an assortment of other materials into beautiful artwork, jewelry, and home décor. Undoubtedly, a treasure trove for all to behold!

Kitengela Glass, founded in 1981, by Nani Croze provides a lively training center for over fifty artisans receiving on-going training and/or employment in various artistic disciplines. In addition to helping individuals make a living through their artistic abilities, Nani is committed to maintaining the natural landscape by planting trees, promoting renewable energy sources, and limiting waste. Additionally, Nani and her husband Eric are strong supporters of access to education for all individuals. This involves funding and promoting grant programs for children’s school fees, as well as providing space and guidance for adults in need of literacy training.

At Kitengela Glass Art you will also find recreation activities to brighten up your weekend and offer a quiet time from the hustle and bustle of city life. Activities include camel riding, swimming, glass mosaic classes and felting. We hold workshops, singly or in groups all the time.
