EP10 - Luisa Omielan - The story behind the sleeper-hit show "What Would Beyonce Do?!"
In this episode I interviewed comedian, improvisor and MC Luisa Omielan. Her debut solo hour was called What Would Beyonce Do? She took it to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2012 with no buzz, no press coverage, no industry help and no PR... The show became the sleeper hit of the Fringe and has launched her career as a stand up. She currently sits below the line of "famous" but has sold out 7 runs at the Soho Theatre.
We talked about -
How to generate your own word of mouth and the value of that in Edinburgh.
The role social media played and continues to play in her audience building.
Her advice to people taking their first show to the Fringe.
Fame vs having your own audience.
The behind-the-scenes story of how she went from having no industry interest, to having an agent, a PR team and a sell out run in London.
We covered the pros and cons of having industry help vs doing it yourself and more!
If you're a comedian who wants to know what goes on behind the curtain of really good stand up shows to make them get the recognition they deserve or you're an audience member interested in the hard work that you don't normally get to see from a comedian going from "unknown" to "having their own audience" this podcast is for you.

My 2nd book is finally out! It's called "How To Make A Living By Working For Free" and you can buy it here for £5 (digital) or £8 (paperback). Here's the synopsis of the book -
The book is a how-to guide for artists to create their own online community for their work and how that community can support the artist to become sustainable in every way.
The book takes a critical and in-depth look at the media's perception of "free content" vs the reality of what the general public see it as.
If you're an artist in the modern age who wants a sustainable audience you're no longer just an artist, you're a community leader.
If you'd like to read the first few chapters of the book you can find a PDF version of that here.
