Japan: Wildfires Tear Through Iwate Prefecture, Hundreds Ordered To Evacuate | N18G

Wildfires have broken out in northern Japan’s Iwate Prefecture, with two separate blazes reported in the town of Otsuchi. Authorities have ordered the evacuation of over 1,800 residents from around 700 households as a precaution. The fires have already scorched more than 150 hectares of forest, turning large stretches of land bright orange, and damaged at least seven buildings. Officials say there are no reported casualties so far. However, concerns remain high as dry weather and strong winds continue to fuel the spread of the flames, complicating firefighting efforts in the rural region.
