President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. highlighted his successful participation to the inaugural Association of Southeast Asian Nations-Gulf Cooperation Council (ASEAN- GCC) Summit held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
"The Summit provided an opportunity to project the Philippines’ long-standing promotion of a rules-based international order, which is essential to the maintenance of peace, security, and stability in our regions which sit astride two of the most vibrant sea lanes of trade and communications in the world," the President underscored in his arrival statement at the Villamor Air Base in Pasay City on October 21, 2023.
He reported that the leaders of the ASEAN and GCC countries held meetings to decide on the future course of cooperation between the two regional blocs, based on the recent challenges confronting nations.
He also emphasized the Administration's commitment to the full implementation of the ASEAN-GCC Framework of Cooperation 2024-2028 and ways forward in continuing the progress made on issues like energy and food security, as well as the improvement of logistical networks for the advancement of the interconnected global economy.
"With the GCC countries home to more than 2 million hardworking Filipinos, I called for the safeguarding of their rights and welfare, as well as for their upskilling to meet the demands of the increasing digital transformation of the modern workplace," he said.
During the Saudi-Philippines Business Roundtable Meeting, the Chief Executive witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between EEI Corporation and Samsung Engineering NEC Co. Ltd. (SENEC), which will pave the way for the construction of a 500-person training facility in Tanza, Cavite that will generate more employment opportunities for Filipinos.
The President also had the chance to meet with His Royal Highness Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud, Crown Prince of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, where they discussed matters of mutual concern.
"Let me assure you that we will continue to advance our national interests as we further expand our partnerships abroad," President Marcos Jr. concluded in his arrival statement.
