Early 1900s American Made Screwdriver Restoration – Amazing Result
Early 1900s American Made Screwdriver Restoration – Amazing Result
Several years ago I bought a used toolbox with several well used tools including screwdrivers,
hammers, wrenches and other woodworking tools in it. All the tools sat in the toolbox since then.
A month ago I decided to check what was in there and this early 1900s screwdriver was the first tool
that I picked up.
As you can see in the video it is well used, the handle is pretty much rotted away and it was very
corroded.
So I looked it up and didn’t find out much except it is a regular screwdriver made in the late 1800s to
early 1900s.
Pretty much a perfect restoration project.
As I was working on it I found out the it is American Made from the etching in the metal. I couldn’t
read everything that was etched on the shaft, but what was very clear in the USA letters etched in
the metal.
So this screwdriver restoration video has three parts:
Part 1: Disassembly
Taking the screwdriver apart before the restoration required a few tricks due to the amount of
corrosion. I had to remove the O ring around the screwdriver shaft without destroying it. There are
some things I did to make that happen, hope you like them.
Part2: Restoration
It took a lot of sanding of the screwdriver shaft and O ring to get it to shine like new. Actually better
than new.
Then I had to make a new screwdriver handle. I did that by woodturning using a lathe, and made a
slightly larger screwdriver handle which made the screwdriver somewhat more comfortable to use.
Part 3: Assembly
The assembly is the best part of the restoration where you get to see the result of the restoration
work you did.
I must say it turned out better than expected.
All in all, the screwdriver restoration took about two weeks and was a lot of fun to do.
I hope you enjoy the video, and appreciate the result.
Thank you for watching.
