Following the Pahalgam attack, the Indian government decided to suspend the longstanding Indus Water Treaty (IWT) with neighbour Pakistan, the first time in more than 60 years, as a series of punitive measures for the alleged role of Pakistan in the terror attacks.

The IWT serves as a means for both countries, dependant on the Indus River, to share its waters and had despite flash points overs the years, has always been upheld.

However, this recent move by India, threatens to destabilise the Subcontinent with the global community holding their collective breaths as to what will happen next.
