THE STALLONERS Live! Aug. 6, 2022: Sousa Bandshell at Sunset Park, Port Washington, NY
Join The Stalloners as they showcase their unique brand of blues, rock, and rhythm and blues, back where it all began for them; in Port Washington. This live concert event was produced by The Port Washington Public Library as part of our ongoing SoundSwap series, hosted by Tony Traguardo. It was made possible by The Friends of the Port Washington Public Library.
Live sound was by Brian Viner, with audio mix for video by Tony Traguardo. Video mix by Bob Waldman.
The story behind The Stalloners began with an impromptu 2004 show at a watering hole in Port Washington, when they were a fledgling cover band going by the ridiculous name of The Frank Stalloners. What followed that debut were explosions of creativity and runs of live performances followed by months (and sometimes years) of dormancy, as members shifted and changed. At some point during all of this rearranging... while surviving a pandemic... the band members shifted their focus from live performances on such hallowed New York City stages as The Bitter End to the writing, arranging, and recording of new, original material, which gave rise to a fine debut album that was written, performed, recorded, mixed, and mastered in nearby Long Island City.
The band boasts an impressive lineup that includes John Vlahos on piano, organ, and vocals, Dan Phillips on vocals, Matt Phillips and Tom Cumming on guitars, James Kelly, on bass, and Dave Ciolino-Volano on drums. These incredible musicians will be joined by the husband-and-wife duo of Frank Lazarus and Kat Miles, long-time collaborators and friends of the band who will add their powerful brand of soul to the set.
Their sound comes from two decades of playing covers and crafting originals from templates provided by the artists that have inspired them, so you’ll hear traces of Steely Dan, The Doobie Brothers, Warren Zevon, The Allman Brothers, The Band, and much more during a Stalloners set. Their debut album, “Songs from Van Dam St,” is currently available on Spotify, Amazon, Apple Music, Youtube, and Bandcamp.
