US: Columbia University President Faces No Confidence Vote | Firstpost America

Some faculty members at US' Columbia University have passed a vote of no confidence in the Ivy League school’s president, Minouche Shafik, who has been facing criticism over her handling of the pro-Palestinian protests on campus. In April, she called the police to clear a pro-Palestinian encampment, which led to mass arrests of student protesters. Now, the resolution says Shafik had violated the “fundamental requirements of academic freedom and shared governance,” and engaged in an “unprecedented assault on students’ rights.” The no confidence vote is largely symbolic as it sends a message to the university's board of trustees, who have been supporting Shafik firmly.
